Hyde Park Calling 2006
Our inaugural festival, known then as Hyde Park Calling, took place in 2006.
Starsailor, Texas, Lightening Seeds, Primal Scream, Ocean Colour Scene, Razorlight and The Zutons played to packed crowds.
Roger Waters headlined the first day, with a triumphant stage show spanning no less than three hours. A popular set of Pink Floyd greatest hits came first, including songs from The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. Waters was joined by former bandmate Nick Mason for the entirety of the dazzling show, which didn’t disappoint with its light show, complete with pyrotechnics and lasers. The encore, and climax of the emotional odyssey – Comfortably Numb – was the perfect end to the perfect headline set, with Waters visibly moved at the reaction of the crowd.
Day two saw The Who delivering a fantastic greatest hits set, jam-packed with classic songs including Won’t Get Fooled Again, Baba O’Reilly, Behind Blue Eyes, Pinball Wizard and My Generation. The band made history by being the first band to broadcast the whole show via the web – with all proceeds going to charity.
The broad age range that turned out for The Who was testament to their incredible staying power – their timeless rock was the ideal closer for our very first festival.
